Transitioning into fall fashion isn’t easy when you live in Arizona. Sweaters and coats are a distant dream when you have at least 3 more months of warm, and I mean triple-digit-don’t-even-talk-to-me-about-leather weather !
What’s a girl to do ?! In my recent interview with Ken Downing, Fashion Director for Neiman Marcus, I asked exactly that and got this little gem of fashion advice that bears repeating.
“What transitions a wardrobe better than anything is color. Color that references the season is the smartest way to go.”
With that in mind, you can make smart choices now by incorporating Fall’s top color trends into your wardrobe.
Pump up the purple !

To go beyond wearing the colors of the season and dig down into what is really current for Fall 2013, it’s about how you wear it. Here are 4 easy ways to update your wardrobe !
1. Mix – don’t match – your reds.
See the model on the right ? She’s wearing a wine red top and pants, a mottled red sweater, carrying a cardinal red handbag, accessorized with a magenta statement necklace. And it works !
This is so much easier to do than trying to match all the reds perfectly, since there are at least eleventy million shades of red.
2- Prints are charming.
If you’re afraid of being overpowered by a deep, dark shade of purple, pick a print with muted violet tones instead, in a shade that works best with your coloring.

Any one of these versatile pieces can work for day or evening, and transition from warm to cooler temps !
